PAUL DIRAC | 2013 | 12" * 12" | Acrylic and pencil on panel, π written from memory to 10,000 digits.
The digits are arranged in a 100*100 grid. No measuring devices were used to align the grid.
poincare
HENRI POINCARE | 2013 | 12" * 12" | Acrylic and pencil on panel, π written from memory to 5,000 digits.
susskind
LEONARD SUSSKIND | 2014 | 12" * 12" | Acrylic and pencil on panel, π written from memory to about 3,500 digits.

I wrote π live from memory over small paintings and drawings -- about the size of a piece of paper. This is an incentive for both the visual content and the numbers to provide generous detail and precision. π is either embedded in the image or gridded over it.

The subjects painted reflect my interest in mathematics, physics, and the history of science. Figures such as Paul Dirac, Henri Poincare, and Leonard Susskind have taken philosophically distinct roles as physicists.
